sny spotlight: Charles' Southern Style Kitchen

Everyone loves soul food and more than that everyone loves a bargain. So what happens when you mix some of the best Southern cooking this side of the Mason-Dixon line with an all-you-can- eat buffet? Welcome to comfort food utopia.

Charles' Southern Style Kitchen is small and unassuming. You might even pass it if for some reason you found yourself wandering the streets of Harlem in the shadow of Yankee Stadium, but once inside the smells of sunday dinner overload your senses and greed takes over.

You'll want to sample everything and there is much to choose from. The fried chicken is crisp and seasoned to perfection. The ribs are tangy and fall right off the bone. The yams are creamy and the mac & cheese is cheesy. There's also perfectly seasoned collard greens, potato salad and so much more even down to the fresh brewed and sweetened iced tea.

Save room for dessert because the coconut pineapple and German chocolate cakes will have your mouth watering. Best of all, you get all that for less than $12.

Who says you can't find a bargain in New York anymore?

Charles Gabriel, the Charles of Charles' Souuthern Style Kitchen is the former chef for the New York landmark restuarant Copeland's. If you've ever had the pleasure of dining at Copeland's you know what to expect from Charles'.
