Same Heroin May Have Killed Six in NYC
NEW YORK - Six people discovered dead or dying in lower Manhattan over the last week may have been killed by the same bad batch of heroin, city officials warned Tuesday.
Police sought out dealers, users and confidential informants who could have information about the source of the tainted or lethally powerful drugs.
With roughly 900 drug-related deaths a year, police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, it took time for city officials to realize the need to alert the public.
The Health Department was awaiting the results of toxicology tests that could confirm or disprove links among the six deaths, Commissioner Thomas Frieden said.
"Heroin in and of itself is deadly," he said. "Drugs, unadulterated or not, can kill you."
That's So NOT New York
